It is a third-generation main battle tank prototype developed by France in the early 1980 s and intended for export markets as a successor model for AMX-30B and AMX-32. Built by GiatIndustries, four prototypes were built, from 1983 to 1985. Significant improvements in firepower, protection and mobility over its predecessors failed to attract any orders and the project was eventually canceled in 1990. It was equipped with a 120mm bore smoothbore gun, which was very powerful at the time, with welded steel armor and hardened steel composite armor plates in the front arc.
