A group of animals in the order Artiodactyla, family Bovidae, and subfamily Bovidae, commonly known as "cattle", consisting of 5 genera. Most of them are herbivorous animals ranging from large to extremely large. This includes African water buffalo and American bison, as well as yellow cattle, water buffalo, and yaks, which are very important to humans. Habitats vary greatly depending on species. It can survive in grasslands, sparse tree grasslands, wetlands, tropical rainforests, and temperate forests. Buffalo is a very social animal. Cattle are specialized herbivores that forage in open grassland habitats. As whole herbivores, they consume high fiber vegetation, which contains more cellulose and lignin than forest animals.
