Hippo is a semi aquatic mammal of the Hippo family in the order Artiodactyla. Hippo is the largest omnivorous mammal in freshwater. The meaning of the term hippopotamus is "the horse in the river", which is the Greek term for this powerful beast. Hippo are mainly distributed in tropical regions of Africa, inhabiting swamps and reeds near rivers. Hippo often live in groups, mostly moving at night, and spend most of their time soaking in water. They have a gentle temperament. Hippo have a great appetite and mainly feed on aquatic plants such as reeds. Sometimes they also eat land crops, such as grass on the shore. The long teeth of hippopotamuses are of great value and are one of the reasons for their rapid decline.
