Also known as Lawetlat'la or Louwala-Clough, is a layered volcano located in the U.S. state of Washington, part of the Cascade Mountains. It is famous for its catastrophic eruption on May 18, 1980, which was one of the deadliest and most destructive volcanic events in U.S. history. During this eruption, a massive landslide occurred on the north side of the volcano, creating the largest debris flow in history. After the eruption, the height of Mount St. Helens was reduced by about 400 meters, forming a huge crater.
