It is a small island located near the south coast of San Miguel Island in the Azores. It is a famous nature reserve and tourist attraction in the region. It is formed by volcanic eruptions and has a unique horseshoe-shaped crater that contains a protected inner lake. The ecological environment of the island is rich and diverse, and it is the habitat of a variety of seabirds, reptiles and marine life. It has been designated a nature reserve since 1983 to protect its unique wildlife. There are 59 confirmed species of plants on the island, including 9 endemic species, and 29 species of birds. It is a nature lover's paradise.
