The M3 submachine gun was a low-cost. 45 caliber submachine gun mass-produced by General Motors during World War II. The appearance of the M3 submachine gun is very similar to a lubricating oil gun used to add butter to cars, so it is also known as a "butter gun". The M3 submachine gun did not appear on a large scale on the battlefield until 1944 and entered China with the assistance of the United States to the Nationalist army. Afterwards, this submachine gun was captured in large quantities by the People's Liberation Army and became the main equipment for the Chinese People's Volunteer Army at the beginning of its operations in Korea.
