The HK416 is an assault rifle equipped with 5.56 x 45mm NATO ammunition cartridges. It is designed and manufactured by Heckler&Koch, a German company. Although the design is based on AR-15 class firearms, it utilizes the proprietary short stroke gas piston system of Heckler&Koch's early G36 series rifles. The HK416 is a standard assault rifle used by the Norwegian Armed Forces and the United States Marine Corps, and has been selected by the French Armed Forces to replace the FAMAS. Other users of HK416 include the German Army and Irish Army Rangers, as well as the US Navy's Navy SEAL Team 6
