It is a two-seater, two-launch supersonic carrier-based multi-purpose heavy fighter developed by the American Grumman Company (now Northrop Grumman Company) for the U.S. Navy. Development began in 1967, the prototype first flew on December 21, 1970 and was delivered in 1972.
