It is a bolt action rifle widely used by the French military from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. It was first adopted by the French army on March 14, 1890, and a full-length rifle variant was introduced in 1902. During World War I, the B é tier rifle was not only used by the French army, but also equipped the French Foreign Legion and French colonial forces. In 1916, in order to improve combat effectiveness, the B é tier system underwent significant improvements and the "Modify é 1916" version was launched. The main improvements included adding a handguard and expanding the magazine capacity from 3 to 5 rounds to match the capacity of the Mauser rifle used in Germany.
