Melia azedarach, also known as Melia azedarach, is a deciduous tree in the Meliaceae family. It is up to 30 meters tall, with a diameter of 1 meter at breast height. It has two to three odd feathered compound leaves, measuring 20-40 centimeters in length. The flowers are fragrant, and the sepals are deeply split, with ovate or elongated lobes. The petals are light purple, inverted egg shaped, and spoon shaped. The filament tube is purple, 7-8 millimeters long, and the anthers are 10. It grows on the inner side of the lobes, and the drupe is spherical or elliptical in shape, measuring 1-2 centimeters in length. It is found in various provinces and regions south of the Yellow River in China, and is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. It is also cultivated in temperate regions and is found in low-altitude wilderness and roadways. In nearby or sparse forests, the flowering period is from April to May, and the fruiting period is from October to November.
