The Grey Whale (scientific name: Eschrichtius robustus) belongs to the subfamily Gray Whales of the order Whales, suborder Whales, and is larger in size than other species of the family Whales, but smaller than the exposed spine whale; Its adult length is 10 to 15 meters (slightly larger for females than males), and its maximum weight exceeds 35 tons. The body shape is spindle shaped, with a thick and plump trunk. It is thickest near the fin limbs and gradually tapers towards the tail. Without dorsal fins, there are 8-15 low peak like protrusions along the posterior one-third of the spine, with the first peak like protrusion being the largest and smaller as it approaches the tail. It mainly feeds on the eggs of planktonic small crustaceans, herring, and other migratory fish. But do not feed when migrating southward.
