Inlaid with turquoise animal faced bronze plaques, it is a Xia Dynasty artifact. Unearthed in the autumn of 1984 at the Erlitou Site in Yanshi, Henan Province. The object has a height of 16.5 and a width of 11cm. It is in the shape of a shield, with a slightly raised face. It is first cast with a card shaped frame, and then hundreds of square, round, or irregular turquoise are glued together to form a protruding animal face. This plaque was unearthed on the chest of the deceased and is likely a decorative item for wearing. It is the earliest and most exquisite inlaid bronze ware discovered, and it can be said that its discovery paved the way for inlaid bronze ware.
