The original currency used in Albania was the franc. In July 1947, a currency reform was implemented, which changed the franc to a new currency in circulation, the lek, with 1 lek=100 kunta. Lek replaced the old currency franc, with an exchange rate of 9 lek to 1 franc, and an exchange rate of 50 lek to 1 US dollar. 50 Kunta commemorative coins, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the liberation of World War II.
