Elato is one of the nine great muses in Greek mythology, and she is the goddess of inspiration for literature, science, and art. Elato is the muse of lyrical poetry, especially erotic poetry. In the hymns of Orpheus, Elato is known for her visual charm. Since the Renaissance, she has often been depicted wearing a wreath of myrtle and roses, holding a harp or small harp, which is a musical instrument often associated with Apollo. This statue is made of marble and comes from Mount Calvo in the 2nd century AD. It is now housed in the Carlsberg Museum of Art in Copenhagen, Denmark.
