The Twelve Palace Terracotta Warriors are works from the Northern Wei period in China, made in the 500s AD. This pottery figurine is made of gray clay, and there are traces on the surface indicating that it was coated with slippery soil. This pottery figurine is part of the twelve zodiac series, and these animals represent the traditional Chinese concept of time. This group of terracotta warriors is currently housed in the Cleveland Museum of Art. The pottery figurines of the Northern Wei Dynasty showcase the great convergence of the agricultural culture of the Han ethnic group in the Central Plains and the nomadic culture of the northern grasslands at that time, as well as the new appearance of ancient pottery art that emerged under the influence of the flourishing Buddhist sculpture.
