The statue is funded by public donations and sponsors, supported by the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust and a special advisory group established by the government. The statue stands 9 feet (approximately 2.7 meters) tall and is made of bronze. Produced based on a photo of Gandhi standing outside the office of Prime Minister Ramsey McDonald in 1931. The base of the statue is lower than the base of other statues on Parliament Square, which is a deliberate choice of the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust to reflect Gandhi's spirit of humility and equality. The statue was designed by Ian Walters and unveiled in 2014 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Gandhi's birth.
