North American red oak is a native plant of North America, also known as red oak, red oak, or northern red oak, as a distinction from southern red oak. It is also the state tree of New Jersey and the provincial tree of Prince Edward Island. The distribution area extends north to the Great Lakes region, south to Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana, east to Nova Scotia, west to Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Minnesota in the eastern and central United States, as well as southeastern and central southern Canada. North American red oak has now been introduced to a small part of Western Europe as an ornamental tree species for planting in gardens and parks.
