Papaya is native to tropical America. It was introduced to China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is planted in tropical cities in southern China and is now widely planted in tropical and warmer subtropical regions of the world. Papaya, banana and pineapple are also known as "the three major tropical herbaceous fruit trees". Their fruits are rich in nutrients, amino acids, vitamins and trace elements; their meat is sweet and juicy.
