Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Allium genus in the Liliaceae family, divided into hard leaf garlic and soft leaf garlic. It is usually composed of tightly arranged small, fleshy, petal shaped bulbs, with several layers of white to purple membranous bulb outer skin. Leaves are wide strip-shaped to strip-shaped lanceolate, flat. The stem is solid and cylindrical. The bracts fall early, and the umbels are densely covered with bulbous buds. There are several flowers in between, with slender stems and large ovate bracteoles. The flowers are often light red in color, and the style does not extend outside the perianth. The flowering period is in July.
