Craigievar Castle is located 5 miles south of the town of Alford, 50 minutes drive from Aberdeen. It is the inspiration for the Disney animated Cinderella Castle. This pale pink castle was built in 1626 and was purchased by the Forbes family, who lived here for 350 years until it was taken over as a gift by the Scottish National Trust in 1963. This is a typical Baron style castle in Scotland, consisting of 7 floors. Initially, it had many defensive facilities, including four round towers, but one has been preserved to this day.
