The beluga whale is a mammal belonging to the family Beluga in the order Cetaceae, also known as the Beruka whale or the sea canary. Beluga whales are generally distributed around the Arctic region, with the vast majority living in the waters north of Europe, Alaska, and Canada in the United States. It is a highly social animal with a tight grouping structure, usually divided into groups of the same age and gender, and there are also smaller mother child pairs in the population. Beluga whales are known for their versatile calls and rich facial expressions. Whales have enormous economic value. Since the 17th century, the number of beluga whales has sharply decreased due to whalers killing them, and they have been recognized as CITES by the Washington Convention. The beluga whale is a second level protected animal in China.
