The Ishin bat is about 14 centimeters long, with wings spread out to 37 centimeters. It resembles modern bats, but has some primitive features. Its tail is long and not connected to the hind limbs. The first winged finger has claws and the body is relatively flexible. The Ishin bat, like many modern bats, sleeps upside down from trees or rocks. The Ishin bat is an extinct bat of the suborder Pteroidea, which lived in the early Eocene approximately 52.5 million years ago. Its fossil was discovered in North America. There is only one species under it, called the index finger god bat.
