The Japanese copper Luo flower golden turtle has a body length of 25-29mm and a width of 12-14.5mm. It is relatively large and slightly shiny, with a head, front chest and back plate, and small shields mostly dark olive green or dark green with a reddish tint. It has yellow flesh, antennae, and most of the legs. The tibia and tarsi are dark brown, almost dark green or black. The upper part of the lip base is nearly square, with a high longitudinal ridge, densely covered with round engraved points. The leading edge is curved, slightly folded, and the back end is smooth with almost no engraved points. The front chest and back panel are densely covered with deep circular notches, and the disc area has smaller notches. The base is the widest, and both sides gradually narrow forward with a narrow border. The back corner is slightly round, the back edge is horizontal, and the concave center is shallow.
