African elephant: a genus in the family Elephantidae, order Longnose. Adult African male elephants are over 3.5 meters tall and can reach a maximum of 4.1 meters, weighing approximately 2.7 to 6 tons. Females are smaller than males, with a maximum recorded weight of 13.5 tons. African elephants are the largest mammals on land, with males and females exhibiting dimorphism (both sexes differ in body shape or characteristics). Both species of elephants in this genus are native to Africa and can live in various natural environments ranging from sea level to an altitude of 5000 meters, including forests, open grasslands, grasslands, thorny thickets, and semi-arid jungles.
