Aphrodite is a goddess of love and beauty in ancient Greek mythology, often depicted in scenes related to water, such as bathing or drying herself after bathing. This is one of Aphrodite's most famous sculptures, created by the Greek sculptor Praxiteles in the 4th century BC. The statue is a typical feature of ancient Greek sculpture, showcasing the goddess being suddenly startled while bathing. The statue is currently housed in the British Museum. Many versions of the statue depict Aphrodite attempting to cover her body with her hands or the curtains that have fallen. In this statue, Aphrodite crouched naked and turned her head to the right, as if frightened.
