The Sanghi Buddhist architectural complex is located on a small mountain about 40 kilometers from the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. Although located in a remote countryside, it is known worldwide as the "City of Buddhist Pagodas". During the Peacock Dynasty, King Ashoka built this immortal historical site to enshrine the sacred relics of Buddha. The site consists of a group of Buddhist buildings, including giant stone pillars, palaces, temples, and monasteries. The history of these buildings can mostly be traced back to the 2nd century BC to the 1st century BC. Prior to the 12th century, it was the center of Indian Buddhism and is currently the oldest surviving Buddhist holy site. It was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1989.
