Game Boy was the first generation portable gaming console released by Nintendo in 1989. Game Boy is a sequel to Nintendo's Game&Watch. GB has three redesigned models, namely the small-sized GBP, the GBL with added backlight function, and the colored GBC. As of 2003, GB had a cumulative global sales volume of 120 million units, and Game Boy was the best-selling gaming console before 2004. The next generation handheld console for Nintendo GB was the Nintendo GBA launched in 2001, designed and developed by gamer Junpei Yokoi.
