Also known as the North American manatee, it is a gentle marine mammal in the manatee family. Mainly distributed in the waters along the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico coast. The body is spindle shaped, with a wide back and no dorsal fins. The head is small and the entire body is gray, but sometimes the appearance may appear brown, red, or white due to algae or barnacles attached. Usually inhabits calm and lush shallow seas, near river mouths, or in rivers. It is a herbivorous animal, and its main source of food is seagrass and other aquatic plants. There are four rows of teeth, and each row of teeth will gradually move forward and replace over time. Usually, only one litter is born, and young animals can swim shortly after birth.
