He is a versatile musician in Czechoslovakia, not only a pianist and violinist, but also a music educator, music critic and opera conductor. He made important contributions to the promotion of Czech, Slovak and Russian opera and founded the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra in 1924. He was awarded the titles of "Honored Artist" (1953) and "National Artist" (1958), and in 1958 he won the first prize of the National Theater Festival of the USSR. He worked as a professor at the National Conservatory of Music in Brno and as an opera conductor at the National Theatre in several cities.
