"Ugolino and His Sons" is the academic creation of Calpo during his study abroad in Italy. According to the composition principle set by the college, a sculpture is only allowed to have one to two characters. Kalpo violated this rule by first creating four, and in order to restore historical authenticity, he later designated five characters as a tightly intertwined and inseparable group. The reason why this theme fascinates Calbo is that he can fully express the psychological conflict between human nature and animal nature through male nudity, and better display his romantic passion and realistic expression techniques.
