The Venus of Milos, also known as the Brokeback Venus, was discovered on the island of Milos in 1820 and immediately caused a sensation throughout Europe. It was contested by several countries and the sculpted arms were unfortunately destroyed during the melee. After several twists and turns, it was finally purchased by France as a birthday gift for King Louis XVIII, who then gave it to the Louvre. Venus became a goddess with a broken arm. However, the lost arms actually embody a sense of incomplete beauty.
